Description: 1918 Christy Mathewson World War I vaccination register. Paper slip (3.5"x8") has a pre-printed form on one side and instructions on the opposite. The name "Mathewson Christopher" is written across the top in period ink and dates of typhoid (August 1918) and smallpox vaccinations are penned in below. In the case of smallpox, it appears Mathewson was first vaccinated in February of 1918 with the result noted as "unsucc" (unsuccessful) with another dose administered in August (result then appears to read "under." likely meaning undetermined). He had started the 1918 season as Manager of the Cincinnati Reds but shortly after receiving his August vaccinations he was sent to France, now a Captain in the Army's Chemical Warfare Division. Mild general handling wear with a horizontal fold. Includes Mathewson Collection certificate of provenance: EX
