Description: Christy Mathewson photograph by Charles Conlon c.1924 with "America's greatest pitcher" handwritten notation on back (PSA/DNA "Type I"). Sepia toned 6.5"x8.5" portrait photograph showing Christy Mathewson in street clothes, seated in the Polo Grounds just (6) months before his untimely passing. A handwritten notation by photographer Charles Conlon on the back reads, "My last picture of America's greatest pitcher and ideal sportsman - Polo Grounds - April 19, 1924." Light toning and come corner/edge wear and there is a small amount of residue at upper right which is the result of prior mounting. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA with "Type I" designation. Includes LOA from PSA and Mathewson Collection certificate of provenance: VG-EX
