Description: Important Mickey Mantle 1956 season "Player Of The Year" Award. Rectangular wooden plaque has a metal plate affixed to the front with engraved/impressed text reading, "Player Of The Year Sid Mercer Memorial Award To Mickey Mantle, For His Outstanding Achievements As An Outfielder And His Rich Contributions In Skill And Sportsmanship To Baseball, Presented By New York Chapter BBWAA, Feb 3, 1957." The 1956 season arguably ranks as Mantle's best with his .353 batting average, (52) home runs, and (130) RBIs earning a Triple Crown and the first of an eventual three American League Most Valuable Player Awards. He would lead the Yankees to a World Series Championship, one of seven they would win while he was a member of the team. The plaque (12"x15.5") has a touch of light scattered wear. "Lambert Bros." marker is noted along the lower front edge. Includes printed image of Mantle, beside Casey Stengel, holding the plaque on the day it was presented to him and signed letter of provenance from the Mantle Family: EX
