Lot Number: 350

Description: 1951 Mickey Mantle handwritten letter on Yankees Stationery with original signed mailing envelope. Handwritten letter to Merlyn Mantle on two sheets of "New York Yankees" stationery includes the original mailing envelope with June 18, 1951 postmark. Mantle had made his Major League debut two months prior and despite a solid start he had entered a slump which would famously send him back to the Minor Leagues for a short stint. Content reads in part, "Dearest Merlyn...I sure was glad to hear from you...I have been really lonesome for you since I got back...I had Allie Reynolds to order me a Catalina Pontiac...maybe I'll have it shipped to you + you can break it in...I do alot better when you are at the games because I know when the game is over I'll get to see you...All my Love, Mick." Handwriting and signature rate 8/9 out of 10 and there are typical mailing folds and some light general wear. The envelope has been signed "Mick Mantle" as part of the return address. Includes letter of provenance from the Mantle Family and LOA from JSA: EX-NM
