Lot Number: 15

Description: Interesting c.1914 Wilson brand baseball jersey with patented anchoring system plus related pants. Navy blue jersey with white pinstripes has "Thos. E. Wilson" tag in the collar along with a Los Angeles resellers tag and washed out/faded size tag. A pair of additional tags at lower front include one which is marked "Pat. Aug. 19th 1914 No.1107303." The jersey had been modified in the period to add a reenforced hem along the bottom and there are a series of loops affixed near the lower edge which were fashioned from the same pinstriped material. A check of the patent number reveals that it was for "Useful Improvements in Athletic Garments" and would allow for a shirt to be anchored to pants to prevent "riding up." It is presumed that a top of the line Wilson uniform was used to create what was likely a prototype of the garment. The included pants match the jersey but were taken in and/or had the matching anchor points removed and new belt loops (of a different fabric) installed. Interestingly, the jersey has a "Warner Bros. Wardrobe" stamp inside and the pants have a "WB" marked inventory code written in suggesting that the uniform was used as a prop/costume. Use and general age related wear and a letter "M" on the jersey front was poorly affixed and is now only partially attached: VG-EX
