Description: 1870 Philadelphia Athletics BBC Team CDV with A.J. Reach (SGC 40 VG). Scarce team composite CDV featuring portraits of the 1870 Philadelphia Athletics. The team was one of baseball's first professional teams, with this CDV pre-dating the National League and being issued before the formation of National Association in 1871. All ten team members featured on the CDV are identified beneath their photo and include A.J. Reach, Dickie McBride, Harry Schaefer, George Bechtel, Thomas Berry, Count Sensenderfer, Fergy Malone, Wes Fisler, Tom Pratt, and John Radcliff. The CDV was produced by photographer John L. Gihon of Philadelphia (812 Arch Steet), with advertising print on front and reverse in red. Photo and print quality is exceptional. The mount exhibits light handling wear with a minor finger print at the bottom of the front and minor wear/light surface soiling at the bottom of the back. The display quality is much higher than the given grade. Graded SGC 40: VG. This is the first time that this example has been offered at auction. Includes original makeshift holder that the CDV was stored in since around the time of issue.Final Bid: $3,113.00
