Description:Babe Ruth attributed July 21, 1928 homerun baseball - 39th of the season and #455 of his career off Ed Walsh (EX) Red and blue stitched Reach E.S. Barnard Official American League baseball displays and toning and usage wear throughout. A notation which is faint, however remains decipherable, is written across (2) panels in vintage fountain pen reading "Hit By Babe Ruth Saturday July 21, 1928 Home Run Number 39." The included letter of provenance details the history as the original recipient "went to Yankee Stadium as a young man and obtained/caught this baseball which was hit by Babe Ruth....(the) family lived in the NYC area at the time...The baseball never left the family's possession from 1928 to 2007." Ruth can be found in box scores that have (2) homeruns during the July 21, 1928 game with the first, to which this ball is attributed, coming off Hall of Fame pitcher Ed Walsh. While by no means conclusive the supportive evidence of vintage handwriting, correct era of manufacture for the ball, and a detailed letter from the family of the original owner makes for a compelling case that this is indeed a ball hit from the bat of Babe Ruth: EX ($4,000-$6,000)
