Description: Cliff Mapes 1949 New York Yankees World Series ring. Significant ring as presented to key team member Cliff Mapes in recognition of his participation with the World Championship team of 1949. 10K gold ring features "New York Yankees World Champions" lettering on the ring top, encircling a central inset diamond of approx. 1/4 carat weight. Each adjacent side panel features date of 1949 positioned above Yankees team insignia. Interior ring band displays "Balfour 10K" hallmark, along with "Clifford Mapes" engraved name (last name is worn off). Approx. size 12. Mapes played in a career-high (111) games in 1949, mainly as a starting outfielder for the team. Includes a 3-paragraph letter of provenance signed by Mapes+ granddaughter, which mentions that Mapes wore the ring daily: EX/MT
