Description: Rare 1961 New York Yankees World Series Champions ring presented to bat boy Fred Bengis. Desirable original ring as issued by the New York Yankees in commemoration of their lauded 1961 Championship season which captivated fans as Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris embarked on their historic chase of the single season homerun record. Classic ring has a diamond set at the center of the top face which is lettered “New York Yankees World Champions” around the edge. Each shank has a matching designed with the year “1961” noted atop of Yankees famed top hat logo. “Fred Bengis” is engraved on the interior band which is marked “14”(k). Size (9) and weighing (25) grams. In exceptional overall condition with little mentionable wear. Bengis served as bat boy for the 1960 and 1961 seasons and in some small part owed the receipt of the offered ring to Whitey Ford. According to family history it was Ford who learned that the Yankees were not intending to present the bat boys with rings to which Whitey insisted otherwise. Fine rarity which is the most desirable of any 1960s era World Championship ring. Includes letter of provenance from the Bengis Family: NM
