Lot Number: 190

Description: Outstanding 1977 Mel Blount Pittsburgh Steelers professional model game used jersey - "Mel Blount Rule" season (MeiGray 1978 Topps card photomatch). White jersey with black and yellow accent stripes on the three quarter length sleeves has number "47" on the front, back, and shoulders. A "Blount" nameplate spans the back. Medalist Sand-Knit tag on the front tail notes size (46) and there is a "77" printed year tag to one side. Nice use is evident throughout including a pair of very small team repairs. MeiGray has photomatched the jersey to being the very same in which Blount is pictured on his 1978 Topps card. Blount served as the Steelers standout cornerback for (14) seasons with an intensely physical style of play that made him one of the most feared defensive backs in the game. His performance during the 1977 season (the year in which wore this jersey) resulted in League wide implementation of what is now known as the "Mel Blount Rule" limiting defender contact with a receiver to within (5) yards of the line of scrimmage. He was a member of (4) Steel Curtain era Super Bowl Championship teams and ranks among the best cornerbacks to have ever played the game. A highly desirable game jersey and notable rarity being among the best of only a scant few Blount examples known. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and MeiGray photomatch documentation.
