Description: 1937 Harlem Globetrotters correspondence with letters signed by A.M. Saperstein (GD-VG). Interesting and historical lot of (4) typed letters from A.M. "Abe" Saperstein, the founder, owner and earliest coach of the Harlem Globetrotters and a leading figure in black basketball before the sport was racially integrated. The letters, each on A.M. Saperstein's Sports Enterprises letterhead and dated 1937, are addressed to Ezra Murdock, a standout player with the Baltimore Mets and concern Murdock's application to become a member of the Globetrotters at a salary of $25 per week. Includes (1) letter dated Sept. 28, 1937 signed by Saperstein, (1) letter dated Oct. 6, 1937 that is secretarially signed; (1) letter dated Nov. 9, 1937 signed by Saperstein and (1) Oct. 20, 1937 letter that is secretarially signed. Also includes a vintage photo of Murdock and press clippings affixed to paper on the reverse. Signatures rate 7 out of 10, and all four lettters are affixed back-to-back on construction paper, and have age-related wear: GD-VG. ($400-$600)Final Bid: $591.00
