Description: Bill McGowan's School For Umpires related material with (2) McGowan autographed pieces (GD-EX/MT) Interesting group of pieces appears to have been kept by an attendee at Hall of Famer Bill McGowan's "School For Umpires" in 1948. Includes original "Class of 1948" identification card stating that the bearer (name Henry S. Ross typed in) had completed training at the school. Signed "Wm. A. McGowan" in fountain pen rating 9 out of 10 (end of name runs off edge of card). Handling and age related wear and includes what appears to be the original holder; black and white 8"x10" photo showing the school's instructors with Joe DiMaggio. The staff included a number of prominent Major League umpires and each has signed in fountain pen (7 to 9 out of 10) including McGowan, Art Passarella, Augie Donatelli, Ed Hurley, and Bill McKinley (note - the photo is not signed by DiMaggio). This piece is authenticated and encapsulated by Beckett with some light visible toning and wear; a pair of slips of paper, each mounted to 4"x6" card, which are signed by (11) staff members including Passarella, Hurley, McKinley, Somers, and Donatelli; slip of paper listing all staff members (names correlate to those in signed photo and on the signed slips of paper); (2) period photographs showing instructors and those attending the school; and an original copy of the paper bound "Text Book" which McGowan issued (Hank Ross name and other info written on front).
