Description: 1920 Ban Johnson signed letter to Jacob Ruppert with related telegrams/letter - all dealing with Mays/Chapman incident (VG-EX) Interesting group of corresponce sent in the days following the Chapman incident and related to the aftermath. August 19, 1920 dated letter on "American League" stationary has been signed in fountain pen rating 7 out of 10. It is addressed to Jacob Ruppert and mentions a telegram he was passing along; (3) telegrams sent from Johnson to Ruppert all dealing with the aftermath of the Mays/Chapman incident. One of these mentions a statement Johnson had prepared with Tris Speaker whom was then Managing the Indians; additional August 31st dated typed letter which bears a secreterial Johnson signature. This is likewise addressed to Ruppert and recounts the content of one of the telegrams. It further states that "under no circumstances should Carl Mays be premitted to go on the ball field at Cleveland."
