Description: 1960 Carl Mays (3) page handwritten letter with content related to Chapman incident and Ty Cobb (plus related Fred Haney signed letter) (EX-NM) July 11, 1960 Dated three page handwritten letter on "Cleveland Indians Baseball Co." stationary has been signed "Very Sincerely, Carl Mays." It was written to a journalist and Mays writes of his disagreement with a recent television interview which had been given by Fred Haney during which he talked about the first game Mays pitched after hitting Chapman. Fine content throughout with a small portion reading in part, "+after I hit Chapman the Detroit ball club came to New York and I pitched the first game and that Cobb the Manager told Haney the lead off man to fall on the ground of my first pitch and pretend he was hit in the head, and that he did do just that, and that Cobb walked out to the mound and told me I should be more careful, I had just killed a man..." The letter has typical mailing folds and a hint of other light wear. Handwriting and signature rate 7/8-8 out of 10. Also includes a Fred Haney signed typed letter written to the same journalist with his recollection of the incident: EX-NM ($500-$1,000)
