Description: c.1911 Philadelphia Athletics Sterling silver match safe (EX) Blue enameled "American Base Ball Club Of Philadelphia" Athletics team logo is mounted to front of a hinged match safe. The piece opens to reveal spring loaded arms which were designed to secure matches in either side. Mild wear throughout consistent with the intended purpose of being carried daily with some scratches and nicks. While it is unknown if this was a team issued piece, the enameled team logo portion bears a close resemblance to both the press pin and later Championship presentation medallions issued by Philadelphia for the 1911 World Series suggesting that it may relate to those same events. Further, some small surface protrusions on the crossed bats (below elephants foot) may be the result of removal of the small baseball shaped raised piece which appears on the 1911 press pin.
