Description: Significant 1933 Negro League "East-West" All-Star game ticket stub. Rare original stub issued for the "National Colored All-Star Baseball Game" played at Chicago's Comiskey Park. To mirror the Major Leagues, which instituted a national All-Star Game in 1933, the owner of the Pittsburgh Crawfords, Gus Greenlee, organized the inaugural Negro League All-Star game. Greenlee arranged for fans to vote on the players who would participate primarily through several prominent African American newspapers of the period, such as the Chicago Defender and Pittsburgh Courier. The game became known as the East/West Classic and continued as an annual tradition through 1962. The offered ticket is the first example that we have handled and presents very nicely with some light creasing throughout. Includes letter of provenance from the Mitchell family: VG
