Lot Number: 385

Description: Fine Babe Ruth professional model baseball bat c.1925-29. Louisville Slugger 125 model white hickory bat measures 35" long and weighs 41.2oz. The bat exhibits strong evidence of usage incl. repaired handle crack (professionally done, not visible to the naked eye), ball marks, rack marks, and cleat impressions on the barrel. The offered Ruth game bat descended in the family of the original recipient, Mr. Fred Schetelich, who played for several New Jersey area teams in the late 1920s including the Corona Caseys, Marshall & Ball Nines, and the South Orange baseball team, which also included New York Yankee Mike Gazella. Mr. Schetelich became acquainted with Ruth during several barnstorming tours; one such occasion occurred on October 29, 1929 when the South Orange team barnstormed with Ruth and Gehrig. Interestingly, this date happened to be the worst in the history of American finance as the stock market crashed on "Black Tuesday". Exceptional example of a prime playing career era Ruth game used bat with numerous direct usage characteristics and unimpeachable provenance. The bat is being offered publicly for the first time and includes a letter of provenance from the Schetelich family, photocopy of a photo of the 1929 South Orange team incl. Fred Schetelich, and LOA from Hunt Auctions,Inc: EX
