Description: Significant 1965 Roberto Clemente Silver Bat award. During his illustrious (18) year Major League career Roberto Clemente captured the National League batting title four times. Offered is the 1965 National League Silver Bat award which was presented to Clemente as the 1965 NL batting champion. The award is made in the manner of a professional model Louisville Slugger 125 model Clemente bat measuring 34" long and weighing 55.6 ounces in sterling silver. Overall condition is very fine given its materials with some light surface scratching and a minor indentation at the end of the barrel. "Batting Champion 1965 National League B.A. .329" is inscribed near the barrel area denoting the award title. Often lost in Clemente's overall game play is the fact that he was one of the finest batters of the era posting a lifetime .317 average with 3,000 hits and over 1,300 RBI's. Amazingly, Clemente won yet another batting title in 1967 with a career best .357 average. The offered award was given to former Pittsburgh Pirates General Manager Joe L. Brown in 1980 during a 20th Anniversary reunion of the 1960 World Championship team. With the exception of the Most Valuable Player Award, the Silver Bat is regarded as the most coveted of all personal player awards with only a handful having been made available to the collecting public. Substantive piece from one of the greatest players in Major League history. Includes vintage handwritten letter of provenance from Joe L. Brown and LOA: NM
