Description: Scarce Herb Pennock Boston Red Sox uniform c.1921-22. Herb Pennock began his Major League career in 1912 with the Phila. Athletics who were coming off of their second straight World Championship in 1911. After 3 1/2 mediocre seasons he was waived by the A's and picked up by the Red Sox. Eighteen seasons later the story was complete with a record of 240 wins against 162 losses, 248 complete games, 1227 strikeouts, and a perfect 5-0 record appearing in five World Series with a 1.95 ERA. The offered set is believed to be the only Herb Pennock regular season uniform known to exist. Jersey is a very high quality pinstriped flannel shirt with original Wright & Ditson Athletic tag inside collar alongside "Pennock" chain stitched in faded red. Exhibits heavy usage wear including a small period repaired hole on back and some areas of staining primarily on front that could most likely be cleaned if so desired. Matching pinstriped flannel pants also have Wright & Diston Athletic tag inside waistband alongside "Pennock" chain stitched in faded red. Pants have several period repaired tears and some general wear including soiling. Uniform was recently discovered hanging in the closet of an estate where it apparently quietly resided for may years unannounced to the collecting public. Significant offering which is among the finest vintage HOF'er game worn uniforms to have become available at public auction. Includes LOA from SCD Authentic David Bushing/Dan Knoll and photograph of Pennock wearing a similar (and possibly the same) jersey: EX (With note to staining)
