Lot Number: 88

Description: February 1960 Roger Maris autographed handwritten letter regarding Yankees contract negotiations (PSA Mint 9). February 8, 1960 dated handwritten letter filling two sheets of 5"x6.5" paper has been signed "Sincerely Roger Maris." It is addressed to Roy Hamey who was then serving as General Manager of the New York Yankees, the team to which Maris had been traded. Outstanding content fully relates to his proposed salary for the 1960 season with Maris lamenting, "Received your contract which has the sum of $20,000 and I believe I am worth $22,000. I agree this club has many more opportunities...but I don't believe my family can live on opportunities..." Maris ultimately came to terms with the Yankees and made the move to New York where he flourished. He would rewrite record books during the fabled 1961 season and remained a member of the Yankees until 1966. Light toning with typical mailing folds and some unobtrusive staple holes at upper left corners. Includes a file copy letter (unsigned) which was sent by Hamey to Maris in response. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA and includes a full PSA/DNA LOA: Sig. PSA Mint 9, Letter EX

Estimated Price Range: ($2,000-$3,000)
