Description: 1959 Branch Rickey autographed Pittsburgh Pirates release and stock sale document. August 31, 1959 dated typewritten agreement released Branch Rickey from the obligations of his contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates and spelled out terms for the sale of his shares of stock in the team. Rickey had just signed on as President of the Continental League, a proposed third Major League which threated to drain talent from the long established American and National Leagues. Before the new League was fully operational an agreement was reached which eventually lead to expansion and in time both the AL and NL added two new teams each. Rickey had once again made his mark on the game having pushed MLB to expand to more cities across the country. Signed "Branch Rickey" in ink rating 8 out of 10 with additional signatures from a witness and the Pirates V.P. and Assistant Secretary. Light handling wear.
