Lot Number: 238

Description: Extremely rare Eddie Gaedel handwritten Wingler form (PSA/DNA 8 NM-MT) Questionnaire sent by noted baseball historian Karl Wingler to Eddie Gaedel whom has filled out portions in his own hand including writing his middle name, portions of his date of birth, weight, nationality, hair color, eye color, high school, and home address. PSA has graded both this handwriting and a note/signature of Wingler himself "NM-MT 8" and authenticated/encapsulated the piece. Gaedel remains one of the more interesting figures in 20th Century baseball history despite making just (1) plate appearance and was walked on (4) pitches. The pitcher he faced, Bob Cain, was hardly to blame as Gaedel's strike zone was minuscule - he is on record as the shortest player in MLB history standing just 3'7" tall. The stunt was the brainchild of Hall of Fame Cleveland Browns team owner and Hall of Famer Bill Veeck who gained fame for his publicity stunts and had issued him uniform number "1/8." Gaedel's autograph is highly sought after and notably rare with a surviving population than likely numbers around (10) or less and the offered piece, while not signed, is among the most substantive Gaedel related pieces we have ever offered. Light toning with mailing folds and a staple hole at upper left: Encapsulated by PSA/DNA (8 NM-MT), Form: VG

Estimated Price Range: ($3,000-$5,000)
