Description: Exceedingly scarce 1887 Four Base Hits Tobacco Orator Jim O’Rourke card (SGC 60 EX)(Highest graded example). Among the rarest and most desired of all tobacco issues with scant few total specimens having surfaced within the hobby. Their manufacturing company remains unknown with the cards bearing a strong similarity to other photographic issues of the 19th century such as the Kalamazoo Bats series. This surviving example is being offered for the first time publicly having been discovered in a Pennsylvania estate. The card retains superb eye appeal with only minor surface wear and very slight corner fraying. Back remains clean, other than some light staining at the left edge. Based on grading company data there have only been a total of (21) Four Base Hits cards submitted with none (of any player) rating higher than EX 5 grade. There are only two known O'Rourke cards including the offered example. The scarcity of this popular issue simply cannot be overstated with the offered card rating as one of the highest graded and most significant known.
