Description: Significant Bruce Smith and University of Minnesota Gophers related material including uniform and (3) team signed footballs. Includes jersey which was presumably issued for use by Bruce Smith with his number "54" on both front and back and red stars decorating the shoulders/sleeves. Extensive wear is evident throughout including several repairs. Matching pants have several non-descript marked notations in the waist. It is unknown what purpose the uniform was issued for but it likely relates to an All-Star type game; 1941 National Champion Minnesota Golden Gophers team signed football. Maholwald brand football (model "S5") has been signed throughout by over (50) members of the team and/or related staff incl. Bruce Smith, Dick Wildung, Bob Fitch. Signatures generally rate 7 to 7/8 out of 10 with a few lesser, ball has air loss with the leather slightly hardened and in it's current state it can not be inflated (pieces of the broken bladder can be heard rattling inside); 1940 National Champion Minnesota Golden Gophers team signed football. Mahowald brand football (model "No 100") signed by over (50) players and/or related staff incl. Bruce Smith, Bill Daley, Bob Bjorklund, Bob Fitch, Bob Paffroth, Bill Johnson, and Urban Odson. Signatures generally rate 7 to 7/8 out of 10 with a few being a touch lesser, ball has some air loss and can not be inflated; additional Wilson brand ball signed by (33) (exact year unknown). Bruce Smith is clubhouse signed and possibly others. Fountain pen signatures rate 6/7 to 8 out of 10, ball has air loss and can not be inflated.
