Description: Interesting Christy Mathewson archive related to military service in World War I c.late 1910s. Historically significant group of material as relates to Christy Mathewson and his service in the Chemical Warfare Service in World War I which would ultimately lead to his early passing. Includes 5.5"x8" portrait photograph of Mathewson in officers uniform/suit (irregular cut at edges along with some wear, back has pencil notation and 1922 date stamp); Sept. 6, 1918 Western Union Telegram addressed to "Officer In Charge" of the Chemical Warfare Division relating that Mathewson had been relieved from station with orders of where he was to report; Sept 6, 1918 "Confidential...War Department" orders relaying similar information; Sept. 23, 1918 American Expeditionary Forces...Special Order" relaying orders for "Capt. Christopher Mathewson"; Sept. 26, 1918 "Transfer of Ordnance Property" form which has Mathewson's name as well as a list of items typed in; February 1, 1919 typed document from the "Headquarters U.S. Troops" facility in France which relayed orders for several members of the Chemical Warfare Unit (Mathewson is not specifically mentioned); cloth travel garment bag which has "Capt. C. Mathewson C.W.S U.S.A" lettered on front. At center is a blue and yellow painted band which likely represented the colors of the Chemical Warfare Services unit in which Mathewson served. Mild to moderate handling and other wear throughout. Save for the photograph, this grouping of materials originated from the Mathewson estate along with numerous documents and related military items including Matty signed paperwork occassionally offered within the hobby over the years: GD-EX
