Lot Number: 75

Description: Christy Mathewson's personal World War I map case with autographed identification placard (PSA/DNA "Mint 9"). Cloth map case issued for use during World War I opens to reveal a small leather framed window (with clear cover that has yellowed from age) containing a slip of paper which has been signed "Capt. Christy Mathewson C.W.S. A.E.F." (the initials standing for Chemical Warfare Service and American Expeditionary Forces). The handwriting and signature are done in ink and have been rated "Mint 9" by PSA. The case remains in an outstanding overall state of preservation with only minor use and age related wear. An exceptional association piece tying Mathewson to his service in World War I and one which boasts a highly desirable full name autograph. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA and Mathewson Collection certificate of provenance: Sig. PSA/DNA Mint 9, case EX
