Description: Christy Mathewson's notepad with last name autograph and handwriting c.1918 (PSA/DNA). Leatherbound 3"x5" pad of lined paper as used by Christy Mathewson while in France during World War I. There are names (and some related information) written throughout which presumably represent members of the Armed Forces with whom he served. A portion of these were written by the individuals themselves however there are areas on (4) different pages where there is writing that was done by Mathewson himself. Most notable is a sheet on which he wrote (8) last names in pencil including "Mathewson." On (3) others he appears to have noted the name and location of "Heaths French Grammar", the names and ranks of (3) men, and additional page listing names, ranks, and additional information related to (3) others. Touch of light natural handling wear and there are the remains of a few interior pages which were removed.
