Description: 1934 NFL Championship Game program - "The Sneakers Game" - New York Giants win over Chicago Bears. Desirable original program issued for the December 9, 1934 game played at The Polo Grounds and won by New York (30-13) in what has become known as the "Sneakers game." A freezing rain had covered the field the night before and Giants Hall of Famer Ray Flaherty is said to have pointed out to Coach Steve Owen that sneakers would offered better traction on the ice. Owen dispatched a friend to Manhattan and the athletic director of Manhattan College emptied the lockers of their basketball team. Nine pairs of sneakers arrived during the third quarter and the Giants, already down 10-3, changed their footwear. They rallied in the fourth scoring (27) points to claim the Championship title. Nice example of this sought after program has some mild/moderate wrinkles throughout along with a slightly angled horizontal fold that is more pronounced and effects all pages: GD
