Description: Scarce 1973 Mike Schmidt rookie year professional model road jersey (SGC/Grob: Very Good/Good) Phillies powder blue zip-up road jersey with "P" logo patch and #20 sewn on the front, along with #20 also sewn on the back. Wilson size 42 tag is on the front tail with "73 Set 2 42" chain-stitched strip tag below, and "Schmidt" chain-stitched name tag sewn inside the collar. The original "Schmidt" was removed from the back of the jersey as commonly found on shirts from this era. After playing only (13) games in 1972, Schmidt began to show flashes in his 1973 rookie season of his unprecedented combination of power (18 home runs including a walk-off against Bob Gibson) and defense (finishing in the top five at 3B in assists, double plays, and fielding percentage). The jersey shows signs of excessive use with some stitching loss around the front "P" and around the "20" on the back (outline of nameplate remains on the back). Originally obtained by a collector who received items directly from players and team employees in the period. As noted in the included SGC/Grob LOA, the remaining tags, lettering, and numbers are all original without any evidence of alteration.
