Description: Iconic Johnny Unitas professional model high top cleats c.1970s - Impeccable Unitas Family provenance. Pair of black leather high top cleats each have the number "19" written inside in vintage marker. "Riddell 89T 10 D" is factory punched in the tongue of both shoes and "10 D 8048" is stamped inside. Size "10" is likewise noted on the undersides which also have a "Magnus" logo. Nice use is evident throughout and is most pronounced on the toe of the right shoe. The cleats have been within the Unitas Family Collection since his playing days and are being offered publicly for the first time. He began wearing high top cleats after an ankle injury while playing at the University of Louisville and, alongside his famous crewcut, they became part of his trademark style. Images taken of Johnny U while practicing for Super Bowl V at the Orange Bowl in Florida appear to show him wearing the same (or a very similar) style of turf shoes (with similar/same black undersoles and configuration of pegs). The offered represent the most well documented pairs of Unitas game cleats to have entered the public market.
