Lot 37

Description: Johnny Vander Meer related material incl. personal copy of his 1946 contract, signed photo with Babe Ruth, and "Vander Meer Day" commemorative medallion (Range VG-EX/MT) Includes Uniform Player's contract as issued to Vander Meer for the 1946 season and retained for his personal records. Signed on the interior by Warren Giles (fountain pen rating 8/9 out of 10) with typical fold lines and the slightest hint of additional wear. There is a spot of toning which effects all pages and the year "1946" is handwritten on back in later period ink; (3) vintage baseballs, each mounted on circular black base and attributed to be "trophy baseballs" originating from Vander Meer via an August 2000 auction listing (includes MastroNet LOA) although we can not state with certainty that they are. Each has vintage fountain pen handwriting on side which is partially decipherable due to age and surface wear; Sepia toned approx. 10"x13" photo of Vander Meer and Babe Ruth signed and inscribed in blue marker, "To Barry, Me and the Babe after my 2nd No Hitter, June 15-38, Where were you, Your Pal, Johnny Vander Meer." Signature rates 8 out of 10 (Barry referenced is noted collector Halper), photo appears to have just a touch of light wear. Tastefully matted and framed for display to 19.25"x16.75" overall; and small metal charm which hangs from red/white/blue ribbon. Metalwork has raised baseball at center is engraved "Vandermeer Day" at top with the year "48" noted below. Housed in original box with touch of light evident tarnish/wear: Range VG-EX/MT
