Lot Number: 62

Description: Rare 1938 Philadelphia Phillies professional model road jersey with original Quaker patch. Road jersey done in heavy gauge flannel has "Phillies" team name across the front in scripted logo font. Number "26" is on the back in yellow on blue felt and each of the numbers is further secured in place with (4) buttons/rivets. On the left sleeve is an original "Philadelphia National League Base Ball Club" patch. "Extra" is chain stitched in the collar and there is a Spalding tag on the front tail. In exceptional overall condition with some very minor age related wear. The jersey recently surfaced in a Philadelphia suburb and includes a January 1945 dated handwritten letter on Phillies stationary from scout Jocko Collins to a player he was giving reporting instructions too. It is presumed that the Phillies sent him this jersey so that he would have something to wear while in their Minor League system. A pair of Spalding brand pants were also furnished to us with the jersey but they do not match. An exceedingly rare style and only the second road jersey from 1938 which he have seen or offered. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
