Description: Rare March 6, 1951 Mickey Mantle "Picturegrams" pre-debut news broadside by Illustrated Current News. Large format piece issued by Illustrated Current News was part of a long running series of posters which were meant to convey stories of interest to passersby. Done on 19"x16" paper stock with a young Mickey Mantle shown during his earliest days as a member of the New York Yankees wearing jersey number 6. March 26, 1951 date is noted at upper right which is several weeks before his Major League debut. It is interesting to note that on the same day the piece was issued Mantle was playing in an Exhibition game at the University of Southern California and hit what was estimated to be a (650) foot home run. The poster is mounted to heavy stock backing and shows some light wear which primarily effects the lower right corner.
