Description: Lot of (30) 1991 Topps Desert Shield unopened wax packs with original mailing box and other related material. Desirable group of (30) factory sealed wax packs containing 1991 Topps baseball cards which have the added Desert Shield logo impressed at upper right corner. These special issue cards were only made available to soldiers serving overseas and incredibly the original shipping carton in which they were sent back home is included. They were long ago placed in the attic of the parents of the soldier who served and forgotten about until found during a cleanup last year. The lot includes (30) packs which remain sealed as issued; the contents of an additional (2) packs which are opened (one was open upon arrival at our offices, the other we opened randomly to confirm that the cards had the proper impressed logo); the original Topps box which held the packs; the original shipping carton in which they were sent back to the United States; and a short note from the soldier who sent them written on the back of envelope that accompanied them in the shipping box. Packs themselves are in average EX-EX/MT condition with some light/mild handling and storage wear. This same wear could be found on the (2) opened packs and the cards inside were largely unaffected (total of 30 cards, EX/MT or better condition, with Sparky Anderson, Joe Torre, and Tim Raines). The original Topps box in which they were issued has creasing, a split seam, and the lid is separated. Authentication and verification of 1991 Topps Desert Shield packs can be challenging as they are literally identical to their regular issue counterparts. In order to maintain the integrity of the packs included in this lot, after the group is photographed each will be individually placed in a holder with a Hunt Auctions numbered hologram affixed over the seal: Packs avg.
