Description: 1965 Johnny Unitas Baltimore Colts vs. St. Louis Cardinals Most Valuable Player presentational trophy. Large and impressive 33" tall figural trophy presented to Unitas as being named the Most Valuable Player of the 1965 NFL Pre-season game played in New Orleans between the Baltimore Colts and St. Louis Cardinals. The game was played on August 14, 1965 at Tulane University as part of an on going by a New Orleans contingency to secure an NFL team as part of the 1967 expansion. The series of games during the early to mid 1960s were very successful drawing huge crowds and ultimately led, in part, to the establishment of the New Orleans Saints franchise. Substantial walnut wooden plinth base with columnar support having inscribed brass placards, "1965 New Orleans, LA Baltimore Colts vs. St. Louis Cardinals MVP" and "Booth's High and Dry Award", respectively. Pair of figural brass football player finials adorn the wooden base with large two handled loving cup and figural football at top. Very fine original condition with light surface wear.
