Lot Number: 108

Description: Rare George Gipp autographed photograph. Sepia toned 4.5"x7" photograph has been signed "Good Luck, from Gipp" in fountain pen rating 7-7/8 out of 10. Mild wear to image including chips to both lower corners, some minor wrinkles, and one heavier crease. "The Gipper" was a standout player at Notre Dame under Legendary Coach Knute Rockne leading the team through some of their most productive seasons. On December 14, 1920, just two weeks after being named Notre Dame's first All-American, he passed away due to complications from pneumonia and a related infection. In a fiery speech meant to inspire his players heading in a game vs. an undefeated Army team some years later, Rockne famously implored his boys to "win one for the Gipper." The part of George Gipp was played by future President Ronald Reagan in the movie, "Knute Rockne, All American." He remains one of the most storied figures in the history of the Notre Dame football program and his autograph is both very rare and highly sought after. The photo includes a full LOA from JSA (autograph) and an additional from PSA/DNA (photo, Type III - note - PSA has opined inconclusive with regard to the autograph): Sig. EX/MT, Photo GD/VG
