Lot Number: 121

Description: Christy Mathewson and other mostly baseball related pieces/ephemera from the Mathewson and Keystone collections. Interesting assortment likely including pieces which originate from the Mathewson Collection with some others that may have been donated to the school over the years. Includes (2) exceedingly rare c.1907 supplements which picture Hank Mathewson and Art Devlin. Both are marked "Free with...The Evening World" (heavy wear/flaws, Hank Mathewson piece is split in half, Devlin is nearly in half); September 30, 1921 "Christy Mathewson Testimonial" Giants vs. Braves game (at Polo Grounds) program (covers separated and there is general wear/soiling throughout); 1923 Saranac Lake High School Commencement program (Christy Jr. listed inside); vintage publication article about Mathewson buying a piano; back cover page to an early scorecard which shows a panoramic view of Brush Stadium; vintage photograph of artwork which depicts Matty on a studio style mount; vintage c.1940s "The Giants of New York" magazine/program style publication; late 1940s "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" softcover publication which is a history of the Honesdale Baseball Club from 1897-1947. A chapter inside relates to Christy Mathewson and there is a pencil sketch of the image which shows him tucked inside; 1966 Baseball Hall of Fame yearbook; vintage 8"x10" photo of the Christy Mathewson bronze bust in an early display at the Baseball Hall of Fame; several prints of an advertisement for John Hancock which show Mathewson and a related 1958 file copy of a letter sent by the President of Keystone regarding same; some paperwork related to a Mathewson memorial; vintage child size baseball uniform with "CM" letters on the chest; 1894 dated album page which has a handwritten note signed "C. Mathewson Jr" however we do not known who this person would have been as it is not the autograph of Mathewson himself; cabinet mounted photograph of an 1898 football team (unknown what relation this would have to Mathewson and it is faded so faces are hard to make out); a good number of vintage newspaper/publication clippings regarding/related to Mathewson; large framed newspaper (21"x34") related to the 1905 World Series with another this is shrink wrapped to backing; 1987 dated draft of a book about Mathewson; and a handful of other pieces. Varying degrees/type of wear (in some cases very heavy wear) throughout. Includes Mathewson Collection certificate of provenance: PR-EX
