Plaque measures 4 3/4"x10 1/2" with intricate vine and flower border surrounding a stirring tributary lyric at top by John Kieran underneath which is printed the names of Gehrig's 1939 teamates. 1981 Mickey Mantle New York Yankees auto. home style Spring Training jersey with letter from Mantle. For the multitude of collectors who have been unsuccessfully looking for a vintage Mantle game worn jersey we may have a sparkling alternative. The offered shirt is a white knit NY Yankees home jersey from the 1981 season worn by Mickey Mantle as a coach during Spring Training which does show evidence of light usage wear. The shirt has McAuliffe tag on the tail alongside year, size, and dry cleaning tags. #7 is emblazened on back and Mantle has signed the front of the shirt in blue sharpie. The jersey is accompanied by a 1992 typed letter from Mantle to the directors of the Danny MacFayden Foundation regarding the authenticity of the shirt. The letter has been signed by Mantle and also has a handwritten notation in the margin by Mantle stating, "To the best of my knowledge!". Fine Mantle piece with undisputable provenance.
