The ball was obtained during Game #2 of the 1939 World Series in New York at which a young boy named Walter C. Hultman asked Ruth for his autograph. Ruth gladly obliged asking, "How's that kid?". The ball has remained in the family since its signing and is being offered for the first time publicly. The ball was consigned by the daughter of the original recipient who carefully preserved the baseball within its original box (included) allowing the signatures to remain in such fine condition. The ball was obtained directly from Lou Gehrig while he and Joe Grabiner (relative of White Sox secretary Harry Grabiner) were visiting the family farm in Dumont Lake, MI. Ruth and Gehrig signed baseballs of quality that have not been previously offered are increasingly rare with the offered example among the finest that we have handled.
