| Description: Rare "Mungo Nine" African American related baseball cigar box c.1883. Incredible 19th century cigar box featuring interior color litho. label depicting a game scene of African American players in a stereotypical manner. Image shows a batter comically hitting the catcher and subsequently knocking him into the umpire. Label also repeats on one side panel with some lt. chipping. Retains majority of its' original tax stampings, very clean overall with only minor wear. We have never handled nor seen another African American related cigar box from the 19th century: EX-EX/MT |
