Description: Rare large format Lucky Strike multi-sport advertising display c.1920's. Huge 40" tall by 82" wide (unfolded) cardboard display piece features a large center section with Lucky Strike advertising set above a country club scene. Cigarette packages are mounted in a circular fashion around the perimeter. Two adjoining fold-out side panels, which are rarely found in tact, feature player endorsements and images of golfers Gene Sarazen and Johnny Farrell, tennis star Vincent Richards, and Yankees pitcher Herb Pennock. The sign retains strong color and has benefited from some areas of restoration inclusive of inpainting, a few tear repairs, and some creasing repairs, while maintaining a fine overall appearance. It appears that the cigarette packages may have been re-mounted at some point. The back shows significant water damage, evidence of which has been reduced on the front due to restoration. Very sizeable and impressive period advertising triptych that is rarely seen in such complete form: VG-EX w/ note to restoration |
Estimated Price: ($3,000.00-$4,000.00) |
