Description: Fine Willie Mays professional model baseball bat c.1965-68. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 35" long and weighs 32.6oz. with model #S2 stamped on the knob end. The bat exhibits fine usage characteristics including ball marks, cleat marks, rack marks, and grain swelling. "MAYS" is stamped in block letters on the barrel end. The offered bat was obtained directly from Mays by the consignor at a game in the 1960s. Eloise L. Harris was living in Pittsburgh in the late 1950searly 1960s. During this time, she would often attend Pirates games with a friend who was friendly with Roberto Clemente. Following one of these games, Ms. Harris and Ms. Dorey went down to the field to talk to Clemente. Clemente introduced them to Willie Mays, with whom they discussed baseball and their love of the game. Willie Mays then gave them each a bat.
