Description: *** UPDATED LOT DESCRIPTION*** Scarce Christy Mathewson auto. handwritten album page. Rare and desirable signed album page from HOF pitcher Christy Mathewson with relation to his service in the U.S. military. Unlined 3"x5" album page is signed in black fountain pen, "Property of Capt. Christy Mathewson C.W.S. U.S.A.". C.W.S stands for Chemical Warfare Service, where Mathewson served as a captain in the Army during WWI. While serving in France, Mathewson was exposed to chlorine gas during a training accident. Mathewson’s lungs were substantially weakened and he died of tuberculosis a few years later in 1925.
