| Description: Joe DiMaggio New York Yankees undershirt c.1940s. Original cotton undershirt worn by DiMaggio features "DiMag" written in period ink on the back along with two number "5"s. Front retains its original Tim McAuliffe tag (partially detached) inside the collar and has blue sleeves with a cream color body. The shirt exhibits heavy usage incl. some soiling, wash wear to the tagging and around the sleeves where the colors intersect, and the cuffs at the end of the sleeves appear to have been slightly shortened in the period for comfort. Stenciled "46" size number is found just below the third button. Included is a vintage photograph from the DiMaggio collection picturing DiMaggio wearing a very similar McAuliffe undershirt. Discovered along with several other pieces of equipment within Joe DiMaggio's Yankees equipment trunk (see Lot 952). Great period Joe DiMaggio uniform piece remaining in as found original condition: VG-EX |
