Lot 1019

Description: Lot of (2) scarce July 14, 1933 ticket stubs from Joe DiMaggio's 50th consecutive hit game. Pair of significant ticket stubs from Friday, July 14, 1933 San Francisco Seals game in which Joe DiMaggio broke the Pacific Coast League record for consecutive games with a base hit. The previous record had been held by Jack Ness with a total of 49 games set in 1915. Seals Stadium was alive with anticipation as Mayor Angelo Rossi and Joe's parents were in attendance along with a throng of reporters and photographers poised on the field to capture the record breaking hit. DiMaggio hit a single to set the new PCL mark at 50 games. It was at this point that Joe DiMaggio became a star player. He would continue on to set a mark of 61 games total, which fell just shy of the all-time professional baseball record of 69 games. The tickets remain very clean with "S.F. Baseball Club" and the date on the front; each has some light wrinkling. Based on the obscurity of the game itself and the relatively small number of tickets originally issued, the offered pair are the only two that we have encountered with the exception of (1) found in Lot 174 of this auction. Outstanding rarity relating to Joe's longest streak: EX
