Lot 1002

Description: 1938 Joe DiMaggio New York Yankees player contract. Original player contract issued to Joe DiMaggio for the 1938 season for a salary of $25,000. The contract was signed on April 25, 1938 after a long salary dispute between DiMaggio and the Yankees which caused Joe to miss the first games of the 1938 season. Once the number was agreed upon by both parties, the Yankees were quick to note that the salary would not begin until DiMaggio was in condition to play which is typewritten into the contract on page one. The interior page is signed by Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert and Joe DiMaggio who has also written his San Francisco address. Signatures rate 10 out of 10 remaining in original condition. The lot includes an original sepia tone photograph from the DiMaggio collection picturing Joe signing the contract with Col. Ruppert and Ed Barrow. The 1938 contract was the only executed example within Joe's personal collection and was one of the more notable of his career with the Yankees. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication: NM
