Description: Babe Ruth single signed baseball and related display. Lightly toned red and blue stitched non-official baseball signed boldly on the sweet spot in blue ink by Ruth. The signature rates a strong 8 out of 10 with no breaks or abrasions. Ball has been mounted (removable if so desired) in a shadowbox style display by the original recipient including two vintage newspaper articles relating to the date on which it was signed. On June 21, 1948 "Babe Ruth Day" was held in Spencer, Iowa. At the age of 12 the consignor attended the event with several friends and his father, obtaining Ruth's signature after greeting Ruth's car in the parking lot upon its arrival. Later that same day Ruth was unable to make a second appearance and instead departed for the Mayo Clinic. He would pass away only a little over a month later. Fine example with direct provenance and attractive period display.
