Description: January 5, 1878 W.A. "Candy" Cummings auto. handwritten letter. One page handwritten letter as sent to Sprague expressing Cummings' interest in managing the Buffalo team for the upcoming 1878 season. Cummings was currently serving as the President of the International Association (First Minor League baseball organization) and mentions the League meeting in the text of the letter. Cummings is of course most famous for being credited with the invention of the curve ball. After playing in 1876 for the Hartford Dark Blue Stockings Cummings retired from playing with 124 wins in just four professional seasons. He was elected to the HOF in 1939 fifteen years after his death in 1924. Incredibly scarce playing career era letter from one of the great names in baseball history. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA J.Spence-S.Grad: EX-EX/MT
