Lot 425

Description: 1925 Philadelphia Athletics team auto. baseball with 17-Year-Old Rookie Jimmie Foxx. The 1925 season was certainly better than average for the A's with a second place finish behind the powerhouse Senators. No one could appreciate at the time, however, that the seeds had been planted that year for a second A's dynasty. 1925 was the rookie season for no less than three future Hall of Famers who would shortly lead the A's to three consecutive American League pennants and two consecutive World Championships: Jimmie Foxx, Robert (ôLeftyö) Grove, and Mickey Cochrane. All three are among the 26 black fountain pen signatures on this Ban Johnson Official American League ball with blue and red stitching, including, amazingly, 17-year-old Jimmie Foxx. This is very likely the earliest Foxx signature in existence on a baseball and it is the extremely rare early form of his signature with his last named spelled ôFoxö. The rarity of a 1925 A's ball with Foxx cannot be overstated, because he had only nine at-bats that season (producing six hits). Other notables include Al Simmons, Connie Mack, Bing Miller, Eddie Rommel, Slim Harris, Sam Gray, and Bill Lamar. Sigs range from 4-7 out of 11. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA J. Spence-S.Grad: EX
