Lot 410

Description: 1940 Cincinnati Reds World Champions team auto. baseball. The Reds took a full seven games to defeat the formidable Detroit Tigers, led by Hank Greenberg, in the 1940 World Series. Team balls from that championship team are extraordinarily rare. This is a beautiful complete example that was signed at a reunion, probably in 1960 (the 20th anniversary) or 1961 (when all of the members of the 1940 team were invited to the World Series to watch the Reds battle the Yankees). Certainly it had to have been signed in 1965 or earlier as Hall of Fame Manager Bill McKechnie died that year. A Warren Giles Official National League ball with 24 perfect blue ballpoint signatures, including Lombardi, McKechnie, F. McCormick (MVP), M. McCormick, Vander Meer, Walters, Derringer, and Gowdy. Sigs range from 8-10 out of 10, includes LOA from PSA/DNA J. Spence-S.Grad: NM
